TRADES AND -LABOUR COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting 1 of the Trades and Labour Council wa« held last evening, there being a fair attendance. The president (Mr. A. Roßser) was in the chair. A letter wag read from the Amalgamated Society of Cooks and Waiters, Wellington, inquiring what the Council was doing in the matter of the formation of an hotel employees' onion in Auckland. The letter was referred to the tub-committee already appointed to deal with the matter. The Prime Minister, iii replying to, the Oounoil's - letter regarding the Government control of the oyster beds, thanked the Council for its congratulations. The Minister for Labour alio wrote stating that the Council's recommendations on the subject would be borne in mind ■'■:..■■■■ and that every endeavour had been made to obtain only good and reliable men. WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION. The weekly meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Albert-street Hall yesterday afternoon, the president (Mrs. Dwar) in the chair.
