AUCKLAND RAILWAYS.

THE SUBURBAN SERVICE. [BT TELEGRAPH.—SrECLii CORRESPONDENT.] Weixtngtov, Wednesday. The Minister for Railways was asked today by Mr. Bollard, " Whether he will grant workmen's train tickets in the suburban areas up to nine a.m. to oil young persons who can produce documentary evidence that their weekly earnings do not exceed 155." { The question elicited the following reply :-z" Workers' tickets are granted on the condition that they ore used by the holders by trains arriving at destination not later than eight a.m. Young persons in employment are already in a position to obtain ordinary feeason tickets at half rates. The charges On this bains are very low, and form no bar to travel. The extension of Workers' tickets to trains other than those arriving at.destination by eight a.m. would involve a considerable loss of railway revenue, which the circumstAnces do not warrant." In reply to another question, a* to whether the Auckland suburban railway service would be extended to Swanson, the Minister said t — The suburban trains already- running between Henderson and Auckland do not at present pay their way, and in view of the paucity of population between Henderson and Swanson there is no doubt that the extension of the train service* io the latter place at present would lead to further loss of revenue. I regret therefore that in the Circumstances I cannot authorise compliance with the request." . ' _
