MATAMATA S.M. COURT.

The first sitting of the- Magistrate's Court a>. Matamata was held in the woolshed hall on the, Bth hist., Mr. Cutten, S.M., presiding. In the following undefended cases judgment was given tor plaintiff:—Tetley v. Ratimore, £2 14s and costs; Tetley v. Kaukau, £2 15s and costs; Tong v. Tae, £5 5s and costs; and Tong v. Kepi, £14- 15s and costs. Tho case Korowhiti and others v. Hendy, claim £79 18s for damage by fire, was adjourned until next sitting, on defendant's application. Several cases in which the truant officer of the Education Board had instituted proceedings against Maori parents and guardians resulted as follows: Truant officer v. Tarapepi, fined 14a and costs; same v. Kawau, 16s and costs; same v. Rawiri, withdrawn. Dr. Rayner was fined £5 and costs £4 lis 6d for illegally having a pheasant in. his possession, and a Maori named Heperi was fined. £2 and £2 9s coats for shooting the bird. About a dozen cases were settled out of Court.
