SAILORS AND SOLDIERS.
<m>- ■ • — THE PORTSMOUTH HOME. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. London, June 19. In honour of the Duchess of Albany laying the foundation-stone, the Wesleyans have decided to call their new institution at Portsmouth, erected at a cost of 18,000, the Duchess of Albany's Sailors and Soldiers' Home. The Hon. G. J. Smith, M.L.C., of Christchurch, in a speech on the occasion of the laying of the stone, said that in participating in such functions the Royal family endeared themselves to the Empire. He' recalled the Prince and Princess of Wales' visit to Australasia, and the effect that visit had on quickening loyalty to the Throne and Empire.
