DISCOVERED BY A WARDER. [BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Lytteltos. Sunday. George Smith, better known as Robert McCarthy, an indeterminate sentence prisoner with a bad record, who has been in gaol almost, continuously for the last six years for breaking and entering and theft, succeeded in opening two doors of his cell in the solitary confinement section of the gaol, but was discovered by a warder. A rope made from McCarthy's blanket and shirt was found in the cell of Allandale, another notorious criminal. McCarthy escaped from custody on three previous occasions. On the last occasion he tore up the flooring boards, prized the doors open, but there was no hope of escaping from the yard, the walls of which are 35ft high and closely watched.
