LACROSSE.
Ihe final match of the first round will be played this afternoon on the Domain" Cricket Ground. West End will meet, Grafton, and the Auckland team will hold a practice in which ail new p layers are welcome to join.
The following is a list of the teams and players: — West -End: McCoy, Peace. Stewart, Carpenter, Miller, Browning, Marshal], Walton, Mayne, Travis, Weeks. Alexander. Grafton : Graham, Brown, Hemus, Fisher Ivcan, Horspool, Philson, Good, Thomas! Smale, Headdy, Hay, Choyce. Auckland: J. Walters, G. 11. Watters H. Walton, Me.Williams, Elliot, Walker' Higgmson, Tanner, Gilmore, Stephens' Jones, Cahill. '
Hie encounter between West End and Grafton should be most interesting to witness. As was predicted, the beginners in the former division are quicklv becoming experts, and showed their capability or-. Saturday, when their team defeated that of Auckland. Whether the western men will effect another surprise this afternoon is a difficult question to answer, but, certainly, it is not without the bounds of possibility. in any case, spectators will probably witness a good exhibition.
Headdy is the latest addition to the, ranks, and one upon whom the critics look wall favour.
Travis was responsible for some fine work on Saturday. With Weeks, ho helped materially in the defence. Both these players will be found in West End's ranks to-day. H. Walton made a welcome re-appear-ance. He placed West End at an advantage by playing amongst its attack. With his brother, he showed up well in all rushes, and had a hand in every goal. The local association has been advised by the Wellington body that they are sending up a team to meet Auckland! The match will take place on August. 8, and the local secretary (Mr. Stewart) has applied to the City Council for the exclusive right to Victoria Park on that date. There will be a special general meeting of the association on Tuesday next at eight; p.m. at the Sports Club rooms. Amongst other matters, the question of revising the strength of the present teams and forming an additional team is probably the most important. The attendance of every member will facilitate matters, as he Mill then be able to express his preference or otherwise to play, in some particular division. At a meeting of the Managing Committee on Wednesday, Messrs. Graham, McCoy, and Nolan were, elected a Selection Committee.
