WAIKATO WINTER SHOW.

A meeting of the executive committee of the Waikato Winter Show was held in the Horse Bazaar, Hamilton, on Thursday, Mr. Alien Bell (president) in the chair. The musical programme was arranged as follows :—Brass band, not less than 10 performers, four afternoons, £12: Hamilton Brass Band, three evenings, £12; Cambridge Brass Band, Saturday evening, £5. A letter from Mr. Jephson suggesting the judging of tinners' butter by points was forwarded to the ju%e (Mr. Thornton) for his report. It was decided to request the Auckland Agricultural and Tastoral Association to announce the result of the competition for the Weddel cup on the day of the holding of the Dairymen's Assoication Conference, which will be fixed later. It was resolved to accept. Messrs. Turnbull and Jones' offer to light the building with electricity at a cost, of £40, the committee to supply the necessary power. Mr. Sing's turnips were grown on sandy soil in Tuhikaramea, and considering the dry season the result, was surprising, showing the suitability of these sandy flats for the growth of roots. The variety grown was Crimson King, manured with a mixture of bonedust, black char, and superphosphate at the rate of 2Jc\vt per acre, and the crop would be considered' a good one in any season. Mr. Fraser'* turnips were grown on new and somewhat hpaw soil, being portion of a ridge leading down to'the RuKuhia swamp. The crop was healthy, bin allowed the effect of drought in the numerous blank (daces. The variety grown was the Monarch, niauuinl with a mixture of bone, char, and superphosphate at the rate of Hcwt per acre.
