MEETINGS.
BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL. A meeting of tho Works Committee in connection with tho Birkenhead Borough Council was held on Thursday evening, there being present- Tho Mayor (Mr. A. Kcyes), Messrs. T. Hadfield, E. G. Skcates, J. G. Kay, T. Clements, Win, Wallace, and F. A. Pitt. In connection with tho proposed wharf at Victoria Road, it was decided to recommend tho petitioners to approach theHarbonr Board by petition, arid the Council would do everything possible to havo tho wharf erected. Also that tho petitioners be informed that at the present timo the Council has no funds for making approaches, so that tho cost would Juno to he borno by themselves. COURT BIRKENHEAD. A.O.F. Brother E. Swindail, C.R., presided at the quarterly meeting of Court Birkenhead, No. (j385, Ancient Order of Foresters. Tho following officers were elected and installed by Past Chief Rangers F. Queenin and H. Nicholls:— Chief ranger, Brother W. B. Macduff; sub-chief ranger, Brother G. L. Tucker; senior woodward, Brother Robert Webb; junior woodward, Brother Edgar Walk's; senior beadle, Brother J. J. A. Cooke; junior beadle, Brother E. Fitzgerald; secretary, Brother Wm. Wallace; treasurer, Brother W. B. Woollev; auditor, Brother R. Webb. Brothers W. Wallace and W. B. Macduff were appointed delegates to tho district meeting, to bo held next month. AUCKLAND HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. At tho monthly meeting of the committeo of the Auckland Horticultural Society tho consideration of a suggestion, that a lata narcissus show should be held, was deferred until next meeting, the committee being rather favourable to the suggestion. Subcommittees were appointed to frame tho schedules for the coming season, and the following dates were fixed:—Spring (narcissus) show, September 3 and 4 ; summer (rose) show, November 20 and 21; autumn (chrysanthemum) show, April 15 and 16. It was resolved to affiliate with the National Dahlia Society of Groat Britain. SAILORS' HOME COUNCIL. A meeting of the Sailors' Home Council was held last evening at the Sailors' Homo, Quay-street West. Tho following gentlemen were in attendance:—Messrs. ■P. J. Nerheny (chairman), T. Grosham, P M Maekay, T. Harle Giles, E. Phipps, E. 11. Potter. J. Magee, and C. Little. The annual report and balance-sheet were discussed, in preparation for the annual meeting next Friday. Tho report of the committee showed the avcrago number of boarders in the home for May to have been 51.9.
