ARRIVAL OF IMMIGRANTS.
GOOD CLASS OF PEOPLE. " SOME FROM CANADA AND AMERICA The s.s. Cornwall, which arrived in Auckland yesterday morning from West of England ports, brought 133 immigrants, who intend settling in the Dominion. Thirty-four ,' were booked for Auckland, 48 for Wellington, 21 for Lyttelton, and 30 for Port Chalmers ,* but it is probable that a number of those who originally intended going to Southern ports will remain here if they can obtain work to suit them; The majority are connected with the building trade, there being about 50 carpenters and joiners, plumbers, etc. There are about a dozen blacksmiths, pattern makers, and engineers, and the same number of agricultural hands and general labourers. Six follow commercial pursuits, and there are four domestics. On the arrival of the Cornwall Mr. W. Hunter, of the Labour. Department, went on board, and during the day several of the new arrivals obtained work at the Labour Office. v Then men are regarded as a good class, who are likely to do well in New Zealand. Some of them are inexperienced workers who intend going into the country to find something to do. Practically all are utter strangers to Australasia., arid they mostly come from the North of England and the Glasgow • districts. About a dozen are Irishmen, and several,, strange to say, are from Canada and the United States. 7*,..-'"':-'' ANOTHER LOT ON THE FIFESHIRE. [Br TKLEGRAr-H. —PRESS ASSOCTATION. ] Wellington, Thursday. Forty assisted immigrants/mostly fanners and domestic servants, are coming to New Zealand by the s.s. Fifeshire, due here next month. They are bringing capital varying from £200 to £25 each.
