GALE AND SNOW.
CONDITIONS ON THE EAST COAST.

GisßOnxE, Wednesday. The cold wintry weather that set in yesterday continued to-day, and snow fell throughout the night at Hangaroa, Tiniroto, Wharekopae, and beyond Whatatura.
A gale prevailed at the East Cape today, with a heavy sea. The Union Company's steamer Tarawera experienced very cold and dirty weather on the trip up from Naoier last night, and on arrival in the roadstead communication was negotiated under great difficulties, owing to the heavy sea. It was late in the afternoon before the steamer got away for Auckland. The Huddart-Parker. steamer Victoria had a rough trip from Auckland, and reached port at four p.m. Her passengers and cargo were transhipped without difficulty. Tho steamer resumed her trip South late to-night.
The wind has been •blowing steadily from the south-east -it Auckland during the past two days, with extremely cold weather, and light rain showers at interval-. Masters of vessels arriving at Auckland on Tuesday night and yesterday report a strong south-cast wind along the coast> with a heavy sea prevailing.
