THE SPREADING CHESTNUT

FAMOUS TREES DESTROYED

By Telegraph—Press Association.— Copyright

London, June 0. A tornado on Monday night, in the course of a few minutes, destroyed GO of the famous chestnut trees in the grove at the Teddington end of Bushey Park.

The famous avenue of chestnuts in Bushey Park leads from Hampton Court Palace to Teddington, and is one of the chief sights of the spring season, when the grand old trees are covered with their pyramids of blossom. The park contains besides its chestnuts many fine elms and oaks, and the hawthorns are almost as celebrated as the chestnuts.
