BAUD OF HOPE GATHERING.

• The Royal Albert Hall presented an animated appearance : last evening, when the first of the annual gathering in connection with the Auckland Band of Hope Union took place* The building was specially decorated for the occasion, 'and temperance axioms were everywhere visible. Mr. C. H. Poole, M.P., presided, and » musical programme, under the conductor*!!) of Mr. S. Frith, was gone through. A special feature of the entertainment was the singing by a choir, mostly children, and numbering _ between ISO and 200. Amongst the contributors to the programme were the People's Mission Orchestra, under Mr. L. Heath, and Mr. Alan McElwain. A 'short speech was delivered by the Rev. R. 11. Knowics Kempton, pastor of the Baptist Tabernacle. Another gathering will be held this evening, and His Excellency the Governor (Lord Plunkel) will preside, while an address will also be given by the Rev. J. M. Simpson.
