The Dunedin Jockey Club's Winter Meeting was, opened to-day in splendid weather. The course was in excellent order and the attendance a. record one for a winter meeting. F. D. Jones intended to ride. Shimmer in the Trial Phite, but while waiting in the paddock be was kicked by Bav Lupin, his cheek being badly cut .He was unable to take the mount, and L. G. Kin* rone the horse. The sum of £7855 was put ttirougu the totalisator, as against £6164 last yeai. The results of the racing are as follows:—

Stratagem had Roscommon settled at the distance, but Medallist and Field Gun made a good run, and a fine finish resulted in Stratagem getting borne by a. length, with Medallist, a neck in front of Field Gun. Shortly afterwards Ngawera stumbled and unseated his rider. Turning into the straight R-osine came down and Sarsfield fel! over the top of her, Donovan, the rider of Rosine, Retting a bad shaking. The horses behind these had to be pulled clear and had practically no chance of winning. In a good finish Gold Dredge won by a short head, with Ashbolt two lengths away third. Time, lm. ss.
