A PERILOUS EXPERIENCE.

" \OIL YACHT IN A STORM. The cm*f^ c h fc Mymra arrived at the Thames yesterday after. a perilous experience. The yacht, which is about for.r tons register, fitted with a 12-horse power oil engine, left Dunediu on May 21, bound for the Thames : in charge of Mr. E. M. Stentiford, who intends taking up his residence there. He was accompanied by an assistant to take charge of the engine. The yacht called in at various coast ports on the passage up. All went well until Friday night last, when the yacht was in the Bay of Plenty. There a severe thunderstorm was met with. The wind, blowing, a strong gale, raised a very heavy sea, and the lightning flashes were so vivid that the occupants of the yacht were almost blinded. Owing to the severity of the storm, everything on the yacht "had to be battened down, and she was run before the gale tor 10 hours. The engines were kept going at full speed all the time, and the yacht eventually reached Port Charles in safety, where she remained until 'Tuesday, making the gulf on Wednesday, and leaching Thames the same j morning. The yacht proved herself a fine sea boat (hiring the heavy weather, but Mr. Stentiford (who had to keep at the wheel all of the time) ami his companion had an unenviable experience.
