■•'; :. —i » ———— '■ ■ (■ A BOATlxa accident of a rather startling nature took place on Sunday afternoon near - the Jack's Point Lighthouse, Timaru. Two light boats with crews of four and coxswains Were sighted by Mr. Erieson, the lighthouse- '•.'■'■-'.•■:■■ keeper, making for shore. One boat landed . ; lately on top of an inrunning wave, while the • other got swamped with a breaking sea and .'„ occupants and boat had to be assisted ashore. Then on leaving on the return jour- ■". ney for Timaru the previously:capsized boat got-off safely, while the other, which had. been fortunate in landing, was filled and the crew swamped out. At last, with all the young men thoroughly soaked, the boats got to sea and returned to Timaru but little the ■V .worse for their trip. Mr. ;Ei'iesou, in' the ;•',. course of a very wide experience, reckons that the escape from drowning of some of . the men was little short of miraculous.
