THE RECENT BURGLARIES.
Sir.— is with great amusement I notice in your issue of Saturday last a (statement to the effect that the supposed " band " of burglars at present exploiting the resources of Auckland to support them in the manner to which they have been accustomed are supposed to hie from Sydney. From Sydney! The same old cry. This may be right: it may be wrong. But this thought occurs to me, that it is not surprising in the least for enterprising burglars to come from, Sydney, or any other part of the world, to try their luck'in Auckland with ita totally inadequate police force. "God's Own Country" is certainly the burglar's own country, too, and Auckland their particular " happy hunting ground." In my humble opinion we have a lot to be thankful for. in that we escape so lightly. I have no wish to speak against our police, who certainly do their best under the circumstances, and generally have "a clue." SVDNEYITE.
