MANUKAU HARBOUR.

CONFERENCE TO BE HELD.

The question of harbour : control is receiving considerable attention at present from public men along the Manukau. While a: certain section favours any .control but the present/ Departmental administration, the greater proportion seem to desire local control.: -In June of last year a Manukau Harbour Board ,committee was constituted at a representative meeting, held in the municipal buildings, Onehunga, but of late nothing has been done, owing principally to the illness of the secretary, Mr. A. ' ■Last, evening- the committee '-met at theCouncil Chamber, when the Mayor of Onehunga (Mr. John Rowe) presided, while amongst those .present was the member for Manukau, Mr. F. W. Lang, M.P. After a general discussion it .was resolved, .on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Mr. Allsworth, "That a conference, comprised of delegates from all the local bodies along the Manukau interested in the formation of the proposed Manukau Harbour Board and district, be held at the Council Chamber, Onehunga, on Thursday evening, May 28." It was further considered desirable that the Chamber of Commerce should be represented at the conference, and to that end .it was agreed, on the motion of Mr. Holmes, " That the Onehunga-Manukau Chamber of "Commerce be to depute one of its members to attend the meeting." * The secretary announced that the following local ; bodies would be invited to send delegates to the meeting, viz., Onehunga; ■-■■': Borough' ;. Council, : Waitemata County Council, Onehunga-Manukau Chamber of Commerce, Mangere, Papakura, Otahuhu, Pollok, Avondale, ', Waipipi, Karaka, Awhitu, Waiuku, Papatoetoe, Mount Roskill, Mauku, and One-tree Hill Road Boards. Mr. Lang promised to attend the conference and to assist the project in every way possible..
