THE TRAMWAY SERVICE.
CITY ENGINEER'S REPORT.
INTENTIONS OF THE COMPANY.
At last, night's "■ meeting of. the Auckland City Council the city electrical engineer (Mr. Wvlie) reported that he had made a careful examination of. the tramway plant. Several additions had been made to the plant. The increase of traffic had necessitated a great increase in the number of cars and in the amount of power required. As previously reported, up to the present the boiler power had been altogether insufficient ; but since the addition of No. 6 boiler steaming has been better. In order to bring the boiler capacity up. to a satisfactory■' amount he was informed by the company that two more boilers were on order. These boilers should provide enough steam for 'the requirements of the immediate future. The company stated ■ that they intend to add another large feed! pump. When the two new boilers were added the boiler house would have double its original capacity. The new cars were expected to be ready for service during the month, and These should make it possible for the company to give more attention to car repairs. He'had examined. i a. number of car steps, and found the maximum difference in height between the < two steps about liin, this meant that the step was at most Sin out of centre. In ■ .'-cases there was no appreciable difference, andthe car floors were as low as the . motors "would permit. ' The report was received. SUGGESTED NEW -TIME-TABLES.
