Public Notices. 7VT 0 T I c E. An Application for Letters Patent was made by WILLIAM MURRAY NORRIE, of Auckland, describing himself as a Gas Engineer, on the 6th October, 1906, for an alleged invention by him for " An Improved Acetylene (las Generator," and on the 25th November, 1907. ROBERT LOUIS HOWELL MURRAY, of, the City of Auckland, Acetylene Gas Engineer, by his Patent Agent, G. \V. Basley, lodged notice of opposition to the granting of Letters Patent to William Murray Norrie, on the grounds, amongst others, that the. parts described by the said William Murray Norrie in the Complete Specification accompanying the application No. 21834, made by him on the 6th October, 1906, as aforesaid, are mainly the same as are described in trie Specifications embodied in the Letters Patent Nos. 16221 and 18710. granted to the said Robert Louis Howell Murray, under date 7th April. 1902, and 2nd November, 1904.

The'result of this notice of opposition was that the firm of Henry Hughes. Patent Agents, wrote to the Registrar of Patents, Wellington, in the following words: — , " Wellington, " 23rd January, 3503. . He Nome's Application, No. 23834. " We have received intimation from the applicant to the effect that in view of the opposition that has been lodged by It, H. 11. Murray against this case, he does not wish to proceed further with the application. We therefore now beg to abandon the case, and request that yon will take this letter as a notice of such abandonment. " Fours obediently. " Henry hughbst," Following and because of this notice of abandonment, the Registrar of Patents published in the New Zealand Gazette Supplement of the 2nd April, 1908, No. 25, the usual official intimation that application No. 21884, lodged by W. M. Nome for acetylene gas ' generator, had been withdrawn by the applicant. Parts of Mr. R. L. H. Murray's patents Nob. 16221 and 13710 were embodied in the. withdrawn application, and any person allowing any installation to be made on their premises containing such parts, except installed by Mr. Murray, will be liable to lie proceeded against lor infringement of Mr. Murray's patent rights. This is clearly shown by the following quotation from ! leading text book:—"The mere possession of infringing ma-chines is of itself sufficient ground for injunction." The person installin;,'' is also liable lor infringement. This being so, Mr. Murray will take action against the different persons who, by infringing, are defrauding him of his rights, unless repara- | tion is made to him and a stop is put to I such infringements. An extract from a letter written by the I Registrar of Patents to Mr. It. 1,. H. Murray. | dated the 30th March, 1908, is as follows. '. and it speaks for itself:--" in reply T be? to i inform you that this is the application (No. j 21584) of W. M. N'orrie. in respect of which j you filed notice of opposition, and which was accordingly withdrawn." Mr. Murray deems it necessary to give j this notice, as he finds that mis-statements are being made about hi* pate.it ri-rhts and : also about, his knowledge of the Acetylene I Gas-lighting Business.
