THE SAYINGS OF "G. 8.5."

The "G. .B. S. Calendar,'* published by Messrs. Jackson, Orage,, and Co.. has just made its appearance. It contains a quotation from the works of George Bernard Shaw for every day in the year, selected by, Marian Nixon. The work of selection lias been admirably done. For instance, under the significant date April 1 appears the following passage: — " Every fool believes what his teachers (ell him. and calls his credulity science us' confidently as Ids father called it divine revelation." Other notable pearls rom the rich mine opened by "(.I. B. S." are: — *' In Heaven an angel is nobody in par ticular." '" An Englisman thinks he is moral when lie is only uncomfortable." ' Liberty means responsibility. That is why most, men dread it." People are seduced by romance because they are ignorant of reality." " It is not death that matters, but the fear of death." "He who can does; ho who cannot teaches." "It is dangerous to be sincere unless you are also stupid." " Romance is always, I think, a product of ennui." " 'All the world's a stage;' only the privileged few are allowed behind the scenes." "Better make the horizon your goal; it will always he ahead of you." The liar's punishment is not in the least that he is not believed, but that he cannot believe anyone else." "Hypocrisy is the homage that truth pays to falsehood."
