RUSSIA IN THE FAR EAST
M. STOLYPINS APPEAL.
"HISTORIC MISSION." By Telegraph. —Pre«§ Association.—Copyright. St. Petersburg, April 14. j M. Stolypin has urged the Duma to i vote money for developing Russia's ■ possessions inthe Far East, a* Russia | must be strong there, not only for fighting, but for the protection of the national and civilising work which it was Russia's historic mission to carry on. It was impossible to double track "the Manchurian line, because China had the right of pre-emption, and would certainly buy. Without the proposed railway, he added, it was impossible to develop the 40 million acres of cornlands and rich auriferous wealth in the . forests of the Amur region, or prevent the influx of aliens. Enthusiastic cheering followed M. Stolypin's speech.
