THE DRAINAGE SCHEME.
ANOTHER STEP FORWARD. ADOPTION BY GREY LYNN. The drainage scheme for the city and suburbs was considered at a special meeting of the Grey Lynn Borough Council in committee last night. After considerable discussion, the following resolutions, passed in committee, were adopted by#,the Council : — ' 1 That this Council adopts the drainage scheme as laid down in the reports of Mr. Midgiey Taylor and the city engineer. That it assents to the constructing of the ■work of the main outfall sewer by the city authorities, the city having the future control and maintenance of the said onrfall sewer. That the basis of allocating the cost ol the main outfall sewer and other works and matter connected with the scheme common to all local bodies participating therein be determined by three non-resident commissioners appointed by the Government. x'hat it agrees that the city solicitor take in hand the drafting of a Bill to place before Parliament at its next session, containing the prorisions necessary to enable effect to be given to the drainage scheme, and tc advise the committee from time to time on any matter which may arise in connection therewith, and that the Bill be submitted to this Council for approval or otherwise. That it agrees to connect its main sewer to the main outfall sewer, and to reticulate the Grey Lynn district with the necessary branch sewers as may be required in conformity with the general principles of the scheme, and to the satisfaction of the city engineer, Other resolutions were also brought forward in regard to the Council agreeing to bear its proportion of jthe cost of the outfall sewer, and in regard to placing the seal of the borough on the foregoing resolutions. Both these motions were deferred.
