PORT OF WELLINGTON.

The condition of the trade of a port is invariably of interest to the community, giving as it does a general indication of the prosperity of the city. An analysis of the figures for Wellington for the year ended March 31 last, and the 12 months ended March 31, 1907, shows that there has been an increase of 100,913 tons in the steamers arriving, whilst the sailing tonnage shows an advance of 3764 tons. Although the total number of vessels arriving was less than in the previoas 12 months, the increase in the tonnage of steamers and sailing vessels together reached the total of 104,677 tons. Turning to the volume of shipping leaving the port, it is found that the increase in the number of outgoing boats during the past- 12 months was 40 vessels of 107,617 tons. • Steamers increased by 46, of 103,648 tons, and sailers showed a decrease of six in number, but an increase of 3969 tons register.
