CLAIM FOR BAQK PAY.

A Ax a meeting of tin* executive of the Engine Drivers' Union, on Friday evening, a. letter was read from the Christchurch Tramway Board .stating that it had de-.-i| eiiled not. to recognise the claims of aevwaj engine-drivers for hack pay. In August, 1306, the board was convicted of a breach of the award in paying less than the minimum wage?, it being a party to the award. The back pay, amounting to about £200, has never been paid, although repeated applications have been made by the men.
It was decided to take legal proceeding*, and a ballot v.'jus taken to de term ice which of the men should be selected for a test Oil sc.
