SURROUNDED BY WATERSPOUTS.
The German corvette Planet, which for the last year and a-qtuuter has been engaged in survey and meteorological work in German New Guinea and adjoining waters, has arrived at Brisbane. Captain-Lieutenant Nippe stated that when about 40 miles off Cape More ton, a waterspout was observed some distance off. This was followed by another watery column in a- different quarter, but the demonstration did not end there, for almost simultaneously a number of other threatening pillars connecting the sea and sky appeared at all points of the compass, until it seemed as if the ship would be engulfed, but when the position was at its gravest the menacing columns disappeared.
