AUCTION OF CROWN LANDS.
GOOD PRICES . REALISED
An* auction sale of sections in Ohiwa township, Pirongia East and West, and the village of Waiomio was held at the Crown Lands Office yesterday, when all, with the exception of two lots in Pirongia West, were disposed of. The upset price for the Ohiwa sections, each of one acre, was £10 each. The highest price realised was £19, paid by Mrs. M. J. Campbell, of Opotiki : who also purchased two sections at £14, two at £12, and two at £11 each. F. W. L. Kirk, of Opotiki, secured two sections, one at £10 and one at £12, D. Gascoyne, of Auckland, took one section at £11, H. G. Manisty, of Opotiki, one at £12, and L. J. Moir, of Ohiwa, one at £13. The Pirongia. East sections were museum endowments, and one of two acres was sold to J. S. Chalmers, of Pirongia, at' £2S, and another of two acres went to J. G. Berry, of Pirongia, at £17, the latter securing a 'second section of two acres, at £7. In the village of Waiomio, A. V. Morgan,. of Kawakawa, purchased two areas,, each of ? roods 32 perches, at £5 each, the upset price. An acre of land in the town of Te Rore was also submitted and fell to J. S. Patterson, of Pukekohe, at the upset price of £5. Two lots in Pirongia West, of nine acres, two roods, 17 perches, and one acre one rood 19 perches respectively had upset prices fixed at £20 and £5, but there was no bidder to those figures. ■ ,' THE WAIMARAMA ESTATE . ' At a meeting of the HawkeV Bay Land Board to-day a letter was received from the solicitors for ' Miss Meinertzhagen, asking for a rehearing of her application for ; a lease or license to occupy certain Waimarama lands. ' , Mr. Eustace Lane, a member of the Board, referred to the application from Mr. ■Frank Donnelly for the same lands. The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr. H. Trent) said Mr. F. Donnelly had been advised that no action could be taken with regard to the lands until they were subdivided for selection, and the areas determined. The survey was now being pushed on, and nothing could be done by the Board in ,the meantime. The Board resolved to hold a special meeting on the 30fch inst. for the purpose of rehearing Miss Meuierczhagen's application and dealing with Mr. Donnelly's request.
