MINING NEWS.

WAIT AN CL An essay has been made of a sample of general ore from the Waitangi mine, at a point Bft from the hanging wall of the main reef in No. 2 crosscut east at the low level. This gives a result of £1 17s lOcl per ton (gold, 9dwt; silver, lOdwt 15gr). The rnajtager intends sampling the quartz passed through right across. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. ' Tairua Broken Hills: We have the water haled down in the winze for 501fc. At this point a big wash-out ha« taken place in the south end owing to the soft nature of the.reef, and to the effect of the water rising, In the main low level crosscut good country is still being penetrated. There is no improvement in the drive north on' No. 1 reef. The ore from the slopes is of fair grade. Owing to a break in the water-race the battery has been idle for three days, but is now running full time. Golden Cross: The western crosscut in the south section has still to he extended 30ft to meet the lode. This should be to hand by the end of ne*t week. The country is of the right description for gold and will in all probability continue to the point of intersection. In the north section the western crosscut has been driven 9ft. • - ■ Reliance: In the crosscut east we have cut through Fox's reef, which is about lOin thick and is gold-bearing. We have commenced to drive south on the course of the reef. The spur rises very fast going south so we shall soon be in deeper ground, and I am in hopes that 'there will be art improvement In the reef. Watchman: The crosscut through the Windfall reef has! now reached the "hangingwall. The lode proves to be fully 10ft wide, and is a fine body of ore, heavily charged with bright mineral and /.inn blende. It gives a tail of gold in the dish. Sloping is in progress over the intermediate level, and gold is freely seen at this point. No. 1 winze on the Silver Crown reef is down 32ft. The reef is about 2ft wide and is of a refractory nature. It is heavily charged with iron and copper pyrites, zinc blende, and galena. Next week this work will bo pushed forward with two shifts. Tokatea: We have, driven 16ft on Kelly's leader; total, "Oft from main adit. The leader is Ift wide and continues' to look well. The country alongside the leader is .carrying more mineral, which is a favourable indication for gold. . ... Southern Queen: In "the low level the-lode maintains its usual size and the country is very favourable for gold. The drive is now" In 123 ft from the junction of the Atlantic and Blue reefs. The rise at No. 2 level is up 18ft. The reef maintains its size, with nice blotches of gold and splendid minerals distributed through the stone. 1 am pushing this work on so as to get a trial crushing out, which should prove payable and open up a large block of ground ready for stoping. . - Tairua Consols: The lower level has been driven 20ft. Everything is now in good working order. ' Ready Bullion: I recommend starting - work at the junction of tho two creeks. ■ From here we could drive up under the dyke and get 50ft more backs than from where the* Champion Company started. There is, a. nice profipect of gold here in the dish, and by starting from here we have a big chance of finding where it is coming from. Mount Zcehan: Mr. Mountain (surveyor) has changed the course of tho low level so as to cut the reef where the good values were got at the junction of the- No. 2 and Birthday reefs. The distance from the plug in the drive" to the point laid down at the surface is 140 ft. The drive is now in 9ft beyond the plug. The country continues very hard.
