SHIPPING LEGISLATION.
THE AUSTRALIAN BILL. OBJECTIONS BY COLONIAL OFFICE. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.. Melbourne, March 13. A despatch from the Colonial Office en* closing a memorandum from the Board of Trade, with regard to the Navigation Bill, has been tabled in the Senate. The despatch states that in so far as the Bill conforms to the resolutions of the Navigation Conference, the Imperial Government is in full accord with it*- provisions, and that it desires to put on record that every Dominion has full power to regulate not. only vessels registered in that possession but also vessels engaged i>- the coasted trade. In certain cases, however, the legisia tion proposed went beyond that limit b; purporting to regulate vessels which die not engage in the coastal trade, arc vessels while on the high sea. before or after engaging in the coastal trade. The hope is expressed that the Commonwealth will find it possible to give effect to the suggestions contained in the Board of Trade's memorandum.
