THE DEFENCE SCHEME
MR. PRICE EXPLAINS.

London, March 17. Mr. Thomas Price, Premier of South Australia, interviewed by the Morning Post, explained that Australia's attitude in the matter of military defence was partly prompted by fear that a great awakening of China might constitute a yellow peril, and also by Australia desiring to fulfil her part in Imperial defence. Mr. Price declared that protection was for Australia a fixed policy, with preference to England allowed for. He declined to discuss Home labour problems, but declared that the English investor need not fear confiscation or breach of existing agreements. LETTER FROM LORD ROBERTS. Adklaidk, March 18. A resident of this city has received a letter from Lord Roberts, who says lie is delighted at the line Mr. Deakin has adopted in connection with the Australian defence proposals, which he hopes will be carrier!.
