POLICE COURT NEWS.
♦ ALLEGED THEFT OF TRAM TICKETS. A young- man named Victor Ehnnan, emj ployed as a conductor on the Auckland elecj tric tramways, "was charged, before Messrs. N. Alfred Nathan sad Thos. Peacock, J.P.'s, at the Police Court yesterday with ! having stolen a quantity of tram tickets, valued tit £20 0s 3d, the property of the Tram '.vays Company. Detective McMahon applied for a remand for eight days, which was granted. Mr. Giaister, who appealed for accused, asked for bail, but the application was refused. | ' ~~ i FALSE PRETENCES. ; ] A country resident, named Joseph Bu- ! c<iaMan, was charged with obtaining the ; sum of £4 5s by false pretences from Mr. J. C. Griffin, of Parneil." ! Detective MeM&hor. said that defendant had come from Dargavilie, and misrepresented himself as a capitalist. On the strength of this lie had borrowed the money from Mir. Griffin, with whom ho was staying. Accused admitted the offence, and was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. MISCELLANEOUS. An elderly man named William Markey pleaded guilty to stealing four pairs of boots from his employer, and disposing of them to a second-hand dealer. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on each charge, the terms to run concurrently. A sailor named Antonia .'Rom., charged with deserting the ship Oni, was remanded for one week. Three first offending inebriates (one female, and two males) were lined 10s and costs, or in default 48 hours' imprisonment A fourth offender, named Margaret Williams, was sentenced to 12 weeks' imprisonment.
