FAILURE TO KEEP BOOKS, *

[bt telegraph.—press association.] TiMARtr, Wednesday. In the Supreme Court this morning A. L. Zouch, dentist, of Ashburton, was found guilty of having failed to keep proper books, and was ordered to enter into his own recognisance of £50 to come up for sentence if called upon.

His Honor said ho agreed with the verdict of the jury, but did not like to send a man to gaol for this offence if it was through mere carelessness. He was not altogether satisfied with accused's conduct, and he intended to get more information concerning the case from the official assignee, with a view to ascertaining whether the accused had an ulterior motive in destroying the butts of his cheque-books.
