THAMES DRAINAGE BOARD. [•BY TKLEGRAPy.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Thursday. Tub regular meeting of the Thames Drainage. Boad, and the last mooting of the board, was held to-day at the Borough Chambers, there being present: Messrs. A. Burns (chairman), H. T. Gome, W. Gorric, H. Gilfillan, M. Paul, and J. Nichol (secretary). Tlio secretary read the declaration of the returning officer retting out, that all the members of the old board had been nominated as members of the new board, and as the. number nominated was not in excess of the number required they were duly elected. A letter was read from the secretary of the Enginedrivers' Union making demands for a fixed rate of pay for enginedrivers in the employ of the board and for the regulation of hours and overtime rates, and asking for a reply before the end of December last, failing which an appeal would be made to the Conciliation Board. It was resolved that the letter bo received. The annual report of the manager detailed the difficulties which had been experienced in reducing the water, in {lie shaft, and concluded by '-epofMng that the preparations for sinking were progressing satisfactorily. The balance-shoot gave the total receipts from assessment on the various mines as £3363 7, from Government subsidy £824, May Queen Company (on account of unwatering the shaft), £848 17s Bd, and , sundries £31 6s Bd, making total receipts of £5203 8s 7d. Tairua Triumph : In the winze at No. 2 level very little work has been done, but Monday wilt see the full staff of hands hack and everything in full swing again. No.' 3 level has been extended a further, distance of-40ft for the week, making a total distance of 80ft from the Starting point. This level has required timbering for the ■whole distance, as the ground is of a soft nature, j but at the present face a firmer class of sandstone is coming in the bottom of the drive, and is a good gold-bearing class of country.
