TRAMWAY SERVICE.
SHORTAGE OF CARS
LEGAL ACTION RECOMMENDED.
At the meeting of the City Council last evening, the Electric and Tramways Committee reported that it had considered a letter from the Electric Tramways Company, stating that- the 60 days' notice served by the Council on the company to provide additional cars would expire on January 7, and asking ii anything definite had been decided with regard to this matter. The committee recommended that the city solicitor bo instructed to take such legal action ai was necessary to recover the damages accruing from non-compliance with the notice to provide the additional cars.
Mr. L. J.. Bagnall said that the Tramways Company had not taken this matter in hand in the businesslike way that the Council had a right to expert. During the past month there had been a great lack of car accommodation, and the public had consequently been put to great inconvenience. It wan true that it had been holiday time, but if they had had .-he number of cars asked for, the position, so far as the .public wad concerned, would have been a great deal better.
Consideration of the report was deferred till next, week, when it will be considered at a special meeting of the Council.
