SHEARERS' DISPUTE.
CONCILIATION BOARD AT
MASTERTON.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—rRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Napier, Tuesday. The Conciliation Board held its first sitting in connection with the shearers' dispute at Masterton on Monday. Representatives of both the Farmers' Union and Shearers' Union were present, but no evidence was volunteered on behalf of the former, and the . chairman of the Board said they would not hear evidence from the other side unless evidence was also given on behalf of the farmers. He suggested that the two bodies interested should hold a conference to see if an agreement could be come to, and if this were done the Board would embody that agreement as their recommendation. In the meantime the proceedings of the Board at Napier and Palmerston North would be held in camera, and the evidence would not be used if a settlement were arrived at by the representatives of the respective unions. The Board then adjourned.
