HOUSE PAINTERS' UNION. At the half-yearly meeting cf tho Auckland Houso Painters' Union nine now member.* ► were initiated and two received on clearance. Tho following nominations for the various offices were received:— Mr. H. L. Horning, Mr. 11. LoHoux; vicepresident, Mr. F. Jarvis; secretary, Mr. S. V. Dyer; treasurer, Mr. 11. U. Watts; as-sistant-secretary, Mr. C. W. Brown; auditors v 2), Mr. H. Lovatt, Mr. P. T. Birch, Mr. H. Buckler; -trustees (3), Mr. H. L. Homing. Mr. J. Kelly, Mr. A. Deery. The election will take place at .the annual meeting on the 23rd inst. DEVONPORT FORESTERS. Court Victoria, No. 6699, A.0.F., held its half-yearly meeting at Devonport on the 17th inst'., the C.R., Brother Ballantyne, presiding. There was a good attendance, and a large amount of business was transacted. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows:— Brother Biddlc; S.C.R., Brother Brewer; S.W., Brother Piesse: J.W., Brother Spense; 5.8., Brother the Rev. Evershed ; ,1.11, Brother S. Walker; secretary, Brother Osborne- (re-elected); treasurer, Brother Hoverd (re-elected) ; delegates to district mooting, Brothers Osborne, Hoverd, and Piesse; hall committee. Brothers King, Keys, Ballantyne, Gasson, and Timewell. The district executive was represented by Brother R. A. Kent, D.S.C.R., who impressively installed the officors, and presented Brother Timowell, P.C.R., on behalf of the court, -with a P.C.R.'s neck ribbon and framed certificate. It was decided to hold tho annual picnic at Pine Island on February 15, a strong committee being sot up to make arrangements for tho same. Votes of thanks were passed to tho visitors and retiring officers. Tho sum of £110 was received in contributions.
GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD. A meeting of the Auckland Grammar School Board was hold yesterday aftorrioou, there being present: Sir (*•. M. O'Rorko (chairman), Professor A. P. W. Thomas, Dr. Robertoii, Mossrs. L. J. Bagnall, A. Kidd, M.P., O. J. Parr, and A. K. Harris. Tho resignation of Mr. W. J. Martyn, who has received an appointment at Wellington College, was accepted. Mr. Sloman was granted a further three months' leave of absence, and Messrs. H. B. Torolinson and A. Watt woro appointed' to tho staff. The Board adjourned till January 22. MASTER HAIRDRESSERS. A meeting of tho Auckland Master Hairdressers' Association was held in the Chamber of Commerce Buildings, Swanson-street. last evening. ■ Mr. Bolitho, vice-president of tho association, presided l , and there was a large attendance of members. The meeting was called to confirm a resolution passed at the previous conference of the association regarding tho soale of charges to be adopted. The resolution was unanimously confirmed, and it was further resolved that tho minimum charge for hairdressing, including children, should bo 6d. The question of Sunday-trading was mentioned, and it was decided that strong measures should be taken to suppress it.
