GOVERNMENT HOUSE PARTY.

His Exckllbncy the Governor and Lady Plunket entertained a small party at Government House last evening, to which the following guests were invited: —

Punctually at nine o'clock Their Excellencies, preceded by -the aides-in-waiting, entered the ballroom to the strains of the National Anthem, followed bv the dinner guests, and the official set of lancers was immediately formed, no other dancers occupying the floor during its performance, according to precedent sot in Lord Plunket's regime. Myers) and Mrs. Seymour Thome George, Mr. Justice Denniston and the Mayoress, the Hon. E. M'itchelson and the" Hon. Miss Plunket, the Hon. J. A. Tole and Mrs. Mitchelson, Captain Quayle and Mrs. Boscawen, Captain Nigel Gathorne Hardy and Mrs. Tole. Eady's Band supplied the music.

The ballroom and reception-rooms, corridors, etc., were elaborately decorated with flowers and evergreens, an 3 the improvements recently effected in the upholstering were most pleasing. Supper was served in the diningroom, the long table being massed with pink and white sweet peas, which showed up most effectively beneath the clusters ot wax lights in branching candelbra. The heat of the weather appeared to have little effect on the dancers, who enjoyed themselves thoroughly. In entertaining their guests Lord and Lady Plunket were assisted by Captains the Hon. Gathorne Hardy, Lyon, and Boscawen, A.D.C.'s.
