RAGGING THE SUFFRAGETTES CAYENNE PEPPER AND RATS. By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright London, December 17. When Mrs. Despard and other militant suffragettes were speaking, afc Sutton (Surrey), noxious chemicals and cayenne pepper were scattered about and rats were liberated. These J:acties caused much alarm and the meeting was abandoned. The 6ufTiagott«s are having a bad time. At Nottingham the other evening a meeting at which Miss Christabel Pankhurst, the chief organiser of the Women's Social and Political Union, was to have- delivered au address, was broken up by riotous students. The students liberated tame mice on the platform, but. Miss Pankhurst, instead of being frightened by the little animals, caught and fondled them. The disturbers thereupon resorted to other measures for dispersing Mm meetittg, and these proved effective. Since then the cables have told of several meeting* that have been brought to an abrupt 1 termination by noxious chemicals.
