A CHILD DROWNED.
SAD AFFAIR AT MORRINSVILLE,
A sad drowning accident occurred near the flaxraill on Monday last (writes our Morrinsville correspondent). A little boy named Edward Ormesby, aged two years, was playing about when he accidentally fell into the water trough, and before assistance could be obtained was carried through the hole into the river below. All attempts at rescue proved futile, and the body could not be found until Friday afternoon, when it was discovered in a shallow pool about 300 yds below the mill.
The inquest was held on Saturday morning, before Mr. Forrest, district Coroner, when the jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death," adding a recommendation that the hole should have bars placed across it to prevent a similar accident in the future. This is the second drowning accident in the Waitakaruru River within twelve months—the first victim being a cousin of the latest.
