■o- ■ HIY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORK ESI'ON DENT.] Wauu, Saturday. THE monthly meeting of the council of the AVaihi School of Mines was held on Friday j night, Mr. T. Gihuour presiding. The institution being without the services of an electrician, it was decided to write, to the Thames School on the matter. The director's report staled that the class attendances were being well maintained, and that until the cud of the term Mr. Gates, an advanced student, would carry on the engineering classes, after which it was expected that an electrician would be appointed for the. Thames and Upper Thames schools. Accounts amounting to £62 16s 7d were passed for payment. * On Thursday evening, at the Volunteer Drill Hall, Corporal Royeroft was presented by tho Rev. A. S. Buckland with a gold medal for having the. best record for attendance at company parades. Two welcome gifts have been added to tho collection at tho Waihi School of Mines. One consists of some capital samples of slate and copper ore, presented by Mr. Darby, and the other is an excellent model of the timbering of tho Broken Hills Proprietary mine. The model is the handiwork of Mr. E. S. Tomkyns, and should prove most instructive and interesting to students. , _ _ At, a meeting of the Hospital Ball Committee, held on Friday evening (Mrs. Hamilton presiding), the names of Mesdames Truscott, Peters,' Summers, and Lockie, and Miss (learcy were added to the committee. Being unable to secure the hall on any other convenient, date, it was decided to hold the ball on Friday, August 16, the Fire Brigade Social Committee having kindly relinquished their claim to the hall on that evening. Tho function is to be a plain and fancy dress ball, and various committees were appointed to arrange details. Tho fortnightly meeting of the YVaihi Miners' Union was held on Friday evening in the Miners' Union Hall. After a good deal of routine business had been transacted, accounts were passed for payment as follows :— General accounts, £17 12s 6cl; accident pay, £36 3s 4d: total, £53 15s, lOd.
