PRESBYTERIAN CITY MISSION.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the members of the- rreebyterian City Mission was held in St. .lames - Hall. Wellington-street, last evening, there being a good attendance. The Rev- A. Maeautay Caldwell presided. The committee, in presenting their annual report, stated that early i" the year the customary circular letter was issued to friends, who responded handsomely by contributing not only financial help, but also food and clothing. There being many cases which a mu»ioner could not deal with, the committee made a special effort to raise- £50 to enable a deaconess to be appointed. The response met with was more than satisfactory, for £60 had been subscribed. They were unanimously,' of opinion that the time was now opportune for making such an appointment. After meeting all claims a small balance of 16* sc! stood to the edit of the mission. Help, in the waV of food, clothing, and money, had been extended during- the year to over children. whilst food, clothing, and shelter have been siven to over 50 adults (principally unfortunates in city life). Services had also been rendered to men coming from the guninelds. A large number of discharged criminals had likewise been helped. The miwioner had charge of the asylum services, and visited this institution, as well as the Mount. Eden Gaol, every week. The Cost ley and Veterans' Homes were visited regularly and setvices held m the same; also, the ships in pot. were visited, and, in conjunction with Mr. nralrenriff, the inissioner had charge of the .Sailors- Home services on certain nights. The committee, m conclusion, placed on record .heir appreciation of the services rendered by the ibis.sioner (Mr. Duncan Mcl'licrson). The report was adopted. ■ . At 'the close an interesting ceremony in the form of the presentation of an easy chair to Mr Mcl'herson. on the occasion of the 21st, birtlidav- of the mission and the 21st anniversary of Mr. Mcl'herson'* connection with it. took place. The chairman, in making the presentation on behalf of tho committee, referred in eloquent terms to services of the recipient, whom ho classed as one of the most willing and enthusiastic workers ol the Church. Mr. McPherson suitably replied.
