CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY ACCIDENT.

[BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION'.]

Christchurch, Thursday. Mrs. Weeks, who sustained a severe fracture of the skull through tailing, when stepping off the tramear concerned in the collision at St. Albans yesterday, still lies at the hospital in a critical condition. A careful examination of the car which was the cause of the accident has been made, and the controller, which was reported to have caused the accident, was found to be in perfect order so far as its working parts were concerned, although the outer casing was slightly damaged by the collision. It was also shown that by making a full application with the brake, even with the power on, the wheels of the car could be prevented from turning, thus testifying to the efficiency of the braking equipment.
