London, July 2. Speaking at the Canadian dinner at the Hotel Cecil, Sir Wilfrid Laurier warmly advocated an All-Red line of steamers encircling the earth as a truly Imperial scheme. - Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, he declared, were ready to support the scheme if the British people and Parliament were willing to accept the heavy responsibility of keeping the line of steamers between Liverpool and Canada. Surely what the United Kingdom had done for the foreigner it might be willing to do for. people living under the British flag. The Times expresses the hope that the British will be ready to help that and many other wants to bind the nation together.

London, July 2.

The Times rejoices that New Zealand has been raised to the status of a Dominion. "Her resources, energy, and strong Imperial sentiment are an unmistakable indication of the increasingly important role she is destined to play," it is added. The ' Times commends Sir Joseph Ward's staunch and enlightened championship of Imperial unity.

IMPERIAL OBJECTS.

IMPROVED MAIL SERVICE REQUIRED.

The Westminster Gazette expresses a hope that the Government will regard the All-Red line proposal favourably, if experts report that it is able to fulfil Imperial objects, and especially if it accelerates and improves the mail service between Canada and New Zealand. — *■
