THE LABOUR PROBLEM.
POSITION IN JAPAN. DEMANDS OF ARTISANS. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. London, July 1. Me. Samuel, M.L.C., Queensland, told a London press representative that even in the. land of the Mikado the labour problem had to be solved. The artisans were demanding increased wages and permanent employment. As a result of the increased price of the necessaries of life a considerable number of societies were being formed in the large cities for the purpose of protecting their interests and improving the conditions of the labouring classes. Mr. Samuel added that the condition of the Japanese labouring classes was deplorable, and that the wages paid were inadequate.
