The Daily Express gives details of a great swindle, conducted by Mrs. Elizabeth Home, who Iffes been posting as a daughter of the late Bishop Cowie, of Auckland; Mrs. Catherine Christie (aged 80), and a negro. This trio formed a syndicate, and worked in London and Paris for years, "developing" 32,000 square miles in Madagascar for timber, gold, precious stones, and gums. The project was conducted in the mine of chanty, and every investor waj sworn to secrecy. Solicitors' inquiries on behalf of duped clients have elicited official disavowal of any concession by the Government of France, and criminal proceedings are likely to be taken against the perpetrators of this impudent fraud.
