The following are among the bequests: — Knighthood Star and Badge to the Christchurch Museum, failing their acceptance to his eldest son, and then to his eldest son's eldest son; 500 volumes of books to the Canterbury College, for use in the public library, the books to be selected by some person .or persons appointed by the college ; correspondence, manuscripts, Parliamentary and other papers, accounts, diaries, newspapers, and newspaper extracts, to J. D. Hall and W. H. Triggs, for their determination as to which shall he published; £100 to the Church of England Melanesian Mission; £100 to St. Mary's Home, Christchurch-; £100 to Herrick's Home, Christchurch; £100 to Mount Magdala Asylum, Christ-church ; £100 to the Salvation Army, Christchurch, for the purposes of any industrial home or benevolent institution under control of the army; £IGO to the Dea- ' conesses' Home, Christchurch; £100 to the Y.M.C.A., Christchurch; £100 to the Y.W.C.A., Christ-church; £100 to Archdeacon Scott, for use in any religious or . charitable purposes he may select; £100 to the. New Zealand Alliance, Wellington; - £100 to the Yorkshire Society, Christchurch; £100 to the churchwardens of St. , Luke's Church. Christ-church, for rebuilding - purposes; £200 on trust to the Church pro- , perty trustees, the interest to be applied to i the maintenance of the Sunday-school of St. , John's Church, Hororata; £2000 to the i Church property trustees on trust, the in- ; terest to be applied to the stipend of the . vicar of St. John's, Hororata ; £25 to the , president of the conference of the Metho- . dist Church of Australasia in New Zealand, . for the support of Methodist Church wor- . ship at Glenroy; £100 to the North Canterbury Education Board, to construct a i swimming bath at Hororata public school; , £10,000, or such less sum as may be re- , quired, to build a. brick or stone church at • Hororata for Anglican worship, in place of the. present .wooden church, such church to ; be dedicated to his late wife, and a wooden : vicarage to be also constructed from the amount; £30,000, the income from which to be applied at the discretion of the trustees for charitable purposes for the provincial district of Canterbury; £10,000 for the establishment of a public institution or benevolent trust, to be called the Boys' Gordon Hall Trust, to be managed by a! board of trustees, the objects of the trust to be to provide instruction and amusement for the. boys of the city of Christchurch and surrounding boroughs and districts within an area of six miles as the crow Hies from the General Post Office, Christchurch, such boys being between the ages of 12 and 18, for their physical, mental, and spiritual improvement £1000, free of legacy duty, to the Church property trustees. for the erection of a chapter-house and Synod hall in the city of Christcliurch, to be paid as soon as sufficient funds have been promised to justify the commencement of the work.
