WAIHI NEWS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Tuesday. Tuts morning, at the Police Court (before Messrs. T. Pattullo and H. Moore, J.P.'s), Ernest Worth and Robert Blackburn were convicted and fined for allowing cattle to wander about the streets, thus creating a breach of the borough by-laws. Whilst working on the tube mill plant at Waikino battery, C. Stansford fell from tho scaffolding to the concrete floor, dislocating his shoulder. The injured man was brought on to Waihi, where he was attended to by Dr. Craig. An enjoyable social was held in St. James' Hall, last night, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Ladies' Guild. Musical items were contributed by Meedames Tanner and Gilmour and Messrs. Humphries and Reid, and addresses of a humorous character 'were delivered by Messrs. G. Corbett, J. Slevin, J. Nicholson, and R. Carwon. Nail-driving competitions took place and were won by Mis.? McLean and Mrs. J. Oates. During the evening refreshments were 'handed round. Mr. H. B. Devereux's meteorological observations for the month of June give the rainfall in Waihi as 6.71 in, and the number of rainy days as 14. On the 25th, 2.23 in of rain fell. For the first six months of the year the fall of rain amounted to 18.Sin, which is well above the total fall during eaoh of the preceding two years. The Rev. Mr-. Hill, of Dunedin, who is to fill the supply at St. James' Presbyterian Church during July, is expected to! arrive in Waihi during the present month. i At a meeting of the committee of the Waihi Poultry Society last night, Mr. H.
