Every local manifestation of socialism, or of communal efforts, arouses' keen interest among the students of social problems in Washington). Much interest is temporarily displayed in an effort by the women .of Mountclair, New Jersey, to organise a domestic ' servant corporation. The purpose of this corporation is to do away with the drudgery of the kitchen by substituting a central plant that will prepare food for all families in a town, serve meals three times a day, and leave to the housewife only the easy task of adorning the table as may suit her fancy. - If the initial experiment succeeds, the corporation may extend its service so as to include laundry work, house-cleaning, lawn mowing, and gardening. * ■ -
