BOXING.
Bert. Murphy,, has returned from Christchurch. Ho speaks highly of 'the treatment ho received at the hands of the Canterbury Association. The Wellington Boxing Association has postponed its meeting from: the 28th of this month until July 26. (Godfrey and Sanderson, who were to have taken part at the carnival, will consequently be disappointed. This is - th© second" time who lias trained zealously, has' been disappointed by the Wellington Association. : ' The 9st 71b professional championship of New, Zealand, promoted by the Auckland Boxing Club, is to take place on Monday, •Tunc'3. The two men; entered, Messrs. Godfrey and Gault, are both well-known boxing enthusiasts. Godfrey has won the following championships—The feather-weight amateur championship of England, in 1903 the international amateur, championship, between England and France, in (Paris, in 1903. He' has also won the - championship' of Auckland, in 1906; and the championship ■of. New Zealand, at Wellington, in 1906. Gault, who is a native of Auckland, started boxing as "an amateur 13 months ago. In his first contest lie met C. Wit-ford, but lost on points. In his next contest with Witford lie won in a round and a-half. Ho has beaten MeGovern in a round, H. Donovan in a round, E. Sanderson in two rounds (on a foul). In his next contest with Sanderson ho put him out in one round. Both men are in hard training, and ,a first-class exhibition, should' be given. . ( The (Auckland Club has received the following entries for the amateur contests to take place in conjunction with the 9st 71b professional championship:—lOst ? event: F. Metcalfe (late of South Africa, winner of several amateur events), James. McGlannon (of Cambridge), T. Hunter (we!! known in local boxing circles), and C. Cotterill 1 (of Ivohekoke, a promising boxer, and winner of several contests). The $st 71b contest: A. Crane'(a promising lad), J. Edwards, J. Henderson, and P. Jackson .(a new arrival , from America). •
