PROGRESS OF WELLINGTON
PROPOSED MUNICIPAL GASWORKS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.]
. Wellington Friday. Among other business, the City Council last night set up two committees. One is to consider and report on the desirableness of negotiating with the Gas Company for the purchase of the hitter's works; and the other is to consider whether the time has not arrived when local bodies should unite to acquire an area of land outside the city suitable and adequate to meet the prospective growth of the industrial and commercial interests of Wellington province. 11l connection with the latter proposal, it is suggested that there should be a comprehensive reclamation of the foreshore at Evans' Bay, to provide for the gasworks, ship and boat-building, sawmilling, and other desirable industries.
