With a capital list of acceptances in hand, there is every prospect of a moat interesting afternoon's sport, and' should fine weather prevail"it may be anticipated that a large concourse of visitors .will' go over to the North Shore in order to assist at" the gathering. . " The opening event is the Pupuke Handicap, which may find Turbine and Wsihekau home in the van, and 'they may come home in that order, Khama may win the Ilauturu Hurdle Race. .> Polycaste and .Tu' Cakobau may be the pair to fight out the issue in the Britannia Handicap Omati or Duart may account for the Victoria Handicap. • The Steeplechase will probably find Haydn home in the van, and Mooltan may be runner-up. Turning into the back' Neatator and Irish came out and .'followed - Rangitoto and .Eclair to '.the straight, Rangitoto leading over the hencoop. Narcissus . fell at . the back of the course. Passing the stand the order was Eclair, Rangitoto, Westward, and'lrish, Pharos being last. The leading quartette kept on even terms to the back stretch, flying,the jumps- almost together, but when negotiating •, the ■ log fence Westward .came . to grief. The remaining trio. continued their association, the order past the stand for the second time being Eclair, Rangitoto, and Irish. Going round the back Irish was on even terms with Eclair. Rangitoto having dropped back some lengths. Turning into the straight Eclair: and Irish were jumping together, Nestator and Nadador coming strongly. Irish,, who was. shaping capitally, fell at the hencoop at- the corner, and Nadador, making a big effort, headed Rangitoto and. won easily by about two lengths, Eclair being close up thirp. Armistice rushed to the front and led to the bacl: stretctt, where Marguerite, coming away from the Held, took command.
